5. Dholavira
250 km from the district of Bhuj, in Gujarat, nestles an
ancient city, Dholavira; it highlights Harappa culture and its magnificent
civilization. Second largest in India and fifth in the Indian subcontinent,
this site of Harappa is the only place that marks the presence of the culture
harappa from 2900 to 1500 BCE. On a trip to Dolavira, you can walk through
sun-dried buildings, a 5,000 year old stepwell, old reservoirs. To reach
Dolavira, you will have to travel six kilometers from Ahmedabad. Accommodation
options are very limited to Dolavira so; you can stay in Ahmedabad or go to
Bhuj for the great Rann of Kutch.
4. Palitana Jain Temple, Bhavnagar
Located at the top of Shetrunjai Hill, the Palitana Temple
is one of Jain's most sacred temples in India. He is known for his 3,000
brilliantly carved temples. It is believed that the first Jain Tirthankara,
Adinath, visited this hill while his main disciple, Pundarika, attained
enlightenment here. According to the records, there are about 109 large temples
and 873 small shrines containing about 7,000 images in total, built over 900
years from the 11th century by the Jain community. To reach the temple, it will
climb 3800 steps. For seniors, a palanquin service (palki) is readily
available. The panoramic view of Palitana has developed as one moves towards
the temple. From the top of the temple, you can see the panoramic view of the
Gulf of Cambay and the countryside.Note: the faithful usually start their climb
early in the morning and make their descent in the evening because the night
access is not allowed.

3. Temple of the Sun, Modhera
Built in 1027 AD, the Sun Temple is one of the Indian
sanctuaries still dedicated to the Sun god. It is the embodiment of the
exquisite Hindu temple of the Solanki dynasty. The temple is divided into three
parts, perfectly aligned from east to west, according to the passage of the
deity of the sun. Inside the temple complex, you can see a suryakand or
stepwell, a prayer room (also known as Sabhamandapa) resting on 52 pillars and
another room (Gudhamandara) leading to the inner sanctum called Garbhagrah. The
temple of the Sun is located in Mehsana district in Gujarat. You can travel to
Ahmedabad by car or bus.
